A Call to Revival, Renewal, & Revitalization
Dr. Alexander Kurian
When did we last discuss revival? When did we last pray for it in our prayer meeting? Don't we think it is time for us to set apart our prayer meetings, or even call special times for focused and intense prayer for confession, repentance, renewal, to seek God's face and holding on to God's promise in 2 Chron. 7:14? The Lord has allowed an unprecedented crisis through a pandemic resulting in global lock down, almost paralyzing our life, even limiting our ministries and gatherings. Yes, "it is time to seek the Lord" (Hosea 10:12). Why are we reluctant to set aside some of our routine, traditional, gatherings being done just for the sake of doing it, without ever evaluating its blessing or benefit, just carrying on..... because we have been doing it all these years....oh! give me a break! When will we wake up to realities? Cant we do things in a better way, more Scriptural way, more edifying way, leading us to repentance, renewal and revival, especially in these difficult days. I believe the Lord builds the church but the saints SHAPE it. Are we in good shape? Let me just quote an esteemed brother, a great man of God, late William MacDonald, who echoed this same sentiment more forcefully some years ago. "And we need to repent as assemblies of God's people. Never in the memory of most of us has a meeting been called for the express purpose of repentance. And seldom in any of our meetings confession ever been mentioned. But we need to do it. We desperately need to do it." Our arrogant assumption that we are always right and everybody else is always wrong has made us powerless, careless, and passionless. It is high time for revival, renewal, and revitalization. Lord. wake me up, wake us up.
